Reach for the Heavens: Cristo Redentor de La Cumbre Guide

Perched atop a prominent peak overlooking the charming town of La Cumbre, the Cristo Redentor (Christ the Redeemer) statue is a must-see landmark. This iconic monument offers not only a spiritual experience but also unparalleled panoramic views of the surrounding Punilla Valley. The statue stands as a symbol of peace and hope, inviting visitors to reflect and appreciate the natural beauty of the region. The Cristo Redentor de La Cumbre was inaugurated in 1953, a project conceived by Monsignor Angelelli, then parish priest of La Cumbre. It was built to commemorate the International Eucharistic Congress held in Buenos Aires in 1934. The statue, made of reinforced concrete, stands 14 meters tall and is a testament to the faith and dedication of the local community. It has become a beloved symbol of La Cumbre and a popular pilgrimage site. Visitors can hike or drive up to the Cristo Redentor. The hike, while challenging, offers stunning views along the way. At the top, you can admire the statue up close, take in the breathtaking panoramic views of the Punilla Valley, and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere. Many visitors light candles and offer prayers at the base of the statue. La Cumbre itself is known for its artisanal cheeses and locally produced sweets, so be sure to sample some of these treats while you're in town.
