Designed by Viennese architects Fellner and Helmer, the colonnade was built in 1883-1884 and initially intended as a temporary structure. The colonnade houses several mineral springs, including the Charles IV Spring, named after the Holy Roman Emperor who supposedly discovered the healing properties of the waters in the 14th century. A visit to the Market Colonnade is all about experiencing the spa culture. Purchase a traditional porcelain spa cup (available at numerous shops nearby) and sample the different mineral springs. Transportation
The Market Colonnade is centrally located and easily accessible on foot from most parts of Karlovy Vary. Several local buses stop near the colonnade, including bus lines 1, 2, 4, 6, 8, 13. Get off at the 'Tržnice' (Market) stop. From there, it's a short walk to the colonnade.
