AmaZOOnico Animal Rescue Center Guide
A Sanctuary for Amazonian Wildlife: Witness Conservation in Action Guide
The AmaZOOnico Animal Rescue Center, located near Tena, Ecuador, is a haven for injured, orphaned, and rescued animals from the Amazon rainforest. This non-profit organization provides a safe and natural environment for these animals, with the ultimate goal of rehabilitating and releasing them back into the wild whenever possible. For animals that cannot be released, AmaZOOnico offers a permanent home where they can live out their lives in dignity. AmaZOOnico was founded to combat the illegal wildlife trade and to provide care for animals affected by deforestation and other human activities. The center works closely with local communities and government agencies to rescue animals and to educate the public about the importance of conservation. They focus on providing the animals with the best possible care, including veterinary treatment, nutritious food, and enrichment activities to stimulate their natural behaviors. Visitors to AmaZOOnico can observe a variety of Amazonian animals, including monkeys, parrots, macaws, tapirs, jaguars, and caimans. Guided tours are available, providing insights into the animals' stories and the challenges they face in the wild. You'll learn about the center's conservation efforts and how you can support their work. While there isn't a specific culinary tradition associated with the center, supporting local restaurants and businesses in Tena helps contribute to the local economy and indirectly supports conservation efforts.
