Escal'Atlantic: Embark on a Voyage Through Liner History Guide
Step back in time and experience the golden age of transatlantic travel at Escal'Atlantic, an immersive museum located within the Base Sous-Marine de Saint-Nazaire. This unique attraction recreates the atmosphere of a grand ocean liner, allowing you to explore the decks, cabins, and public spaces of these iconic vessels. Through interactive exhibits, authentic artifacts, and captivating soundscapes, you'll be transported to a bygone era of luxury and adventure. Escal'Atlantic focuses on the history of transatlantic liners built in Saint-Nazaire, a city with a rich shipbuilding heritage. Saint-Nazaire was home to the Chantiers de l'Atlantique shipyard, which constructed some of the most famous liners in history, including the Normandie and the France. The museum showcases the craftsmanship, innovation, and social dynamics of these floating palaces, offering a glimpse into the lives of both passengers and crew. At Escal'Atlantic, you can wander through meticulously recreated cabins, from the opulent suites of first-class passengers to the more modest accommodations of those traveling in steerage. Explore the grand ballroom, the dining rooms, and the engine room, each brought to life with authentic details and interactive displays. Listen to the stories of passengers and crew members, and learn about the challenges and triumphs of transatlantic travel. While not a culinary experience in itself, the museum's exhibits on dining aboard the liners offer a fascinating insight into the culinary traditions of the era. After your visit, explore the restaurants in Saint-Nazaire for a taste of local cuisine.
