Miraishin no Oka (Hill of Hope) Guide
Miraishin no Oka: A Surreal Sculpture Park Overlooking the Sea Guide
Prepare to be amazed at Miraishin no Oka, also known as the Hill of Hope, a unique and captivating sculpture park located on the former site of a quarry in Onomichi. This surreal landscape, created by sculptor Kazuo Katsuta, features a vast expanse of gleaming white marble sculptures set against the backdrop of the stunning Seto Inland Sea. It's a place where art, nature, and imagination converge, offering visitors an unforgettable and Instagram-worthy experience. Unlike historical sites, Miraishin no Oka is a relatively modern creation. The quarry, once a source of stone for local construction, was transformed into this artistic haven in the early 2000s. Sculptor Kazuo Katsuta envisioned a space where visitors could connect with art and nature in a profound way. He used the existing landscape and the abundance of white marble to create a series of sculptures and installations that evoke a sense of wonder and contemplation. Exploring Miraishin no Oka is an adventure in itself. Wander through the park, admiring the various marble sculptures, each with its own unique form and character. Climb to the top of the hill for panoramic views of the Seto Inland Sea and the surrounding islands. The park is particularly beautiful at sunset, when the marble sculptures reflect the golden light. While there are no specific culinary offerings within the park itself, you can find cafes and restaurants in the nearby Bella Vista Sakaigahama hotel.
