Cenote Xcanche Guide
Xcanche Cenote: Adventure Awaits in a Hidden Paradise Guide
Discover the hidden gem of Cenote Xcanche, also known as Cenote Maya, located near the archaeological site of Ek' Balam, not far from Coba. This cenote offers a more adventurous and secluded experience compared to some of the more popular cenotes in the region. Prepare for a thrilling descent into the earth and a refreshing swim in its pristine waters. Cenote Xcanche is accessed via a long wooden staircase that winds down into the sinkhole. Alternatively, for the truly adventurous, there's a zipline that allows you to fly directly into the water! The cenote itself is surrounded by lush vegetation, creating a natural and serene atmosphere. While the cenote itself doesn't have a specific historical narrative, its location near Ek' Balam suggests it was likely used by the ancient Maya for water and possibly for ritualistic purposes. The main activities at Cenote Xcanche include swimming, ziplining, and rappelling. The zipline is a particularly popular attraction, offering a unique and exhilarating way to enter the cenote. Rappelling down the rock face is another option for adrenaline junkies. After your swim, relax in the hammocks provided and enjoy the peaceful surroundings. The on-site restaurant offers traditional Yucatecan dishes, providing a convenient and delicious way to refuel after your adventures. Try the poc chuc (grilled pork) or the papadzules (egg tacos in pumpkin seed sauce).

The easiest way to reach Cenote Xcanche is by taxi from Ek' Balam or Valladolid. From Coba, you can take a bus or taxi to Ek' Balam and then a taxi to the cenote. Some tour operators also offer transportation as part of their cenote tours.
