Explore Nature's Beauty: A Sanctuary of Flora and Fauna Guide
Escape the city bustle and immerse yourself in the tranquility of Reflection Riding Arboretum & Nature Center. This 300+ acre sanctuary offers a diverse landscape of forests, meadows, and wetlands, showcasing the natural beauty of the Tennessee Valley. Whether you're a seasoned botanist, a birdwatching enthusiast, or simply seeking a peaceful retreat, Reflection Riding provides a captivating experience for all. Founded in the 1950s by John and Elizabeth Chambliss, Reflection Riding was initially a private garden. Over time, it evolved into a public space dedicated to conservation and education. The name "Reflection Riding" comes from the reflection of the surrounding mountains in the Tennessee River, which borders the property. The arboretum boasts an impressive collection of native plants, including rare and endangered species. Visitors can explore the grounds through a network of walking trails, ranging from easy strolls to more challenging hikes. Take a scenic drive along the 3-mile loop road, or rent a canoe or kayak to paddle along Lookout Creek. The center also offers educational programs, guided tours, and special events throughout the year. Keep an eye out for the diverse wildlife that calls Reflection Riding home, including deer, birds, and various reptiles and amphibians.
