Crystal Geyser: Nature's Unexpected Eruption! Guide

Prepare to witness a geological oddity at Crystal Geyser, a cold-water geyser located just outside Green River, Utah. Unlike the more famous geysers of Yellowstone, Crystal Geyser is not heated by geothermal activity. Instead, it's powered by carbon dioxide trapped underground, creating a unique and unpredictable eruption. This fascinating natural phenomenon is a must-see for anyone visiting the area. The story of Crystal Geyser is intertwined with the history of oil exploration in the region. In 1935, a drilling company searching for oil inadvertently tapped into a pocket of pressurized carbon dioxide. This led to the creation of the geyser, which initially erupted with impressive force. Over time, the eruptions have become less frequent and less powerful, but the geyser still puts on a show, attracting visitors from far and wide. While you can't swim or bathe in the geyser (it's not hot!), you can witness its eruptions and explore the surrounding area. The geyser erupts sporadically, so patience is key. Bring a camera to capture the moment when the water shoots into the air. The surrounding area offers opportunities for hiking and exploring the unique desert landscape. Remember to respect the environment and leave no trace behind.
