Over the years, the trail has been a popular destination for hikers seeking to experience the beauty of Zion from above. Currently, the most common way to access Observation Point is via the East Mesa Trail. This route is longer and less strenuous than the original, but it requires driving on a dirt road. Another option is to hike from the bottom of the canyon via the East Mesa Trail, which is a very strenuous, full-day hike. Regardless of the route you choose, be sure to bring plenty of water, wear appropriate footwear, and check the park's website for current trail conditions and closures. Remember to obtain a permit if required.
Transportation
To access the East Mesa Trailhead (the most common current route), you'll need to drive. From Zion's east entrance, drive east on Route 9. Turn north onto North Fork Road (a dirt road). Follow this road for several miles to the trailhead. A high-clearance vehicle is recommended. Check with the park service for current road conditions.
