Observation Point is one of the most iconic and rewarding hikes in Zion National Park, offering unparalleled panoramic views of Zion Canyon. From this vantage point, you can gaze down upon the entire canyon, including landmarks like Angels Landing, the Virgin River, and the vast expanse of the surrounding wilderness. While the hike is strenuous, the breathtaking views from the top make it well worth the effort. Historically, Observation Point was accessible via the East Mesa Trail, a longer but less steep route. However, due to a massive rockfall in 2019, the popular East Mesa Trail is currently closed. The most common route to Observation Point is now via the East Mesa Trail, a longer and more strenuous hike. The primary activity at Observation Point is, naturally, enjoying the incredible views. The hike itself is a challenging but rewarding experience. Be prepared for a strenuous climb with significant elevation gain. Bring plenty of water, snacks, and sunscreen. Once at the top, take your time to soak in the scenery, take photos, and appreciate the grandeur of Zion Canyon. There are no specific culinary traditions directly tied to Observation Point, but Springdale, just outside the park's entrance, offers a variety of dining options.
Transportation
Currently, the most common route to Observation Point is via the East Mesa Trail. This trailhead is located outside of Zion National Park and requires driving on unpaved roads. A high-clearance vehicle is recommended. Check the National Park Service website for current trail conditions and accessibility information before planning your hike.
